Over the last few months, Rachel has spent her senior internship on the cardiovascular intensive care unit. During this time she has exceeded all expectations of student nurses. She has continuously gone above and beyond to help the patients heal mentally and physically as well as improve her knowledge and skills in the process. Her experience ranged from taking care of agitated and confused men three times her size, to caring for patients who just underwent open heart surgery. In all cases she was willing to help, learn, and maintained a positive attitude throughout the twelve hour shift. This is especially impressive for someone who is still a student, currently working in the hospital, and is planning a wedding. The patients that she has cared for and I are in agreement that she will be a fantastic nurse. One patient and the patient's family in particular were very impressed. The patient had just had open heart surgery the day before and Rachel did all the skills and cares for this patient for three twelve hour shifts in a row. The family and patient were so impressed with the care that Rachel helped provide, that I as the nurse was awarded the DAISY Award. Since Rachel was essentially the nurse for him those three days and numerous other reasons, I believe she deserves to win the DAISY-In-Training Award.
