Dr. Amy Rex-Smith is a superb teacher who is a master of the content for whatever course she teaches, and she has taught more than one dozen courses since joining our faculty! Dr. Rex-Smith is an engaging and interactive teacher who is completely successful in facilitating students' learning through multiple, highly effective teaching strategies. Noteworthy is that Dr. Rex-Smith's teaching effectiveness extends to both undergraduate and graduate courses and to large lecture courses and small seminars. She has introduced technology into the courses she teaches as teaching becomes increasingly technology-enhanced. At the same time, she has retained time-honored teaching-learning strategies, including paper and pencil examinations and written papers, even in large enrollment courses.  It is obvious to both her students and her faculty colleagues that Dr. Rex-Smith is an ideal candidate for the DAISY Faculty Award, in that she is the epitome of each of the qualifications for the award.  She displays excellence in teaching in the classroom; she demonstrates excellent communication skills with students and colleagues across disciplines and cultures; she demonstrates exceptional enthusiasm and energy in the service of promoting student success, and she inspires students to higher achievement in the profession of nursing. I can think of no one more deserving of the first DAISY Faculty Award.
