Mrs. George is truly the unsung hero of the students and faculty. She is diligently fastidious in all aspects of her role as a faculty member. When working with first year students she demonstrates outstanding patience and meticulousness in helping each student master each course and clinical objective. She treats each student with dignity while always encouraging critical thinking and safe patient care actions. Her students stand out as being exceptionally prepared for the second semester. When asked about their clinical experiences first semester, they proudly report that their confidence and competence is due to having had Mrs. George as their clinical instructor. Mrs. George effortlessly switches to the demands of preparing the student for graduation and NCLEX success during the second semester. She is never satisfied with the condition of her lectures. She continually revising her material to reflect the most current evidence-based practice. During clinical experience in this capstone course, she deftly guides the students to high-level thinking and to the components essential for safe practice upon licensure. Students continually seek her out for information and extra help because she is so approachable and genuine. MCC graduates frequently visit Mrs. George because they want to show her well they have done because of her mentorship.
Mrs. George is an active member of professional organizations in order to keep current with new developments in education and in clinical practice. She volunteers her time to help with student-related events such as Go Red for Health, the MCC Activity Fair, and other AMCCNS projects.
As chairperson member of faculty committees, Mrs. George displays great attention to detail to facilitate the success of our students. During the recent curriculum redesign, Mrs. George lobbied diligently to create practical, contemporary approaches that would enable students to be confident and successful in the nursing program and in their subsequent careers. She is graciously available to help other faculty with all course and student related issues and serves as a mentor or both new and seasoned faculty.
I believe Mrs. George exemplifies the qualities of a DAISY Faculty Honoree.
