Dr. Purpora is a powerful role model for students and faculty colleagues and inspires all of us with her competence and compassion. She teaches the introductory nursing fundamentals class and expertly provides guidance, feedback and calm, clear instructor to more than 100 nursing "newbies" each semester. She never seems to be frustrated or bored with this important task, and looks forward to meeting and engaging these nursing beginners each semester. It takes a special person with patience, humor and generosity of spirit to answer the same basic questions semester after semester. While starting these students on their careers, she also conducts research about incivility and horizontal violence among staff nurses. If that wasn 't enough, she is a considerate colleague and an active participant in the work of the School. The DAISY Faculty Award demonstrates appreciation for a nursing faculty for their commitment and inspirational influence on their students and Dr. Purpora exemplifies this award.
