Dr. Engelke is a positive colleague who expects a great deal from herself and from students.  She is committed to nursing research and role models that commitment through her engagement with students and her continued advocacy for research that makes a difference in the lives of school age children.  Dr. Engelke teaches primarily in the PhD program but more recently has also been teaching the undergraduate research course.  She is an incredibly enthusiastic, passionate and persuasive faculty member who helps young undergraduate nurses realize the power and importance of research.  Her efforts have resulted in a decided increase in BSN-PhD applications with the college of nursing.  Each year we host a lunch and learn for undergraduate nurses to consider continuing for a masters and doctoral degree.  This year the undergraduates lined up at the PhD information desk, all attributing their interest to Dr. Engelke 's research class.  Dr. Engelke brings research to life for all levels of students using case studies, actual researchers, and her own scholarship to help make the connections between education, practice, and research.  Dr. Engelke has been a long-term supporter of collaborative research -both with practice partners such as Vidant and within the health sciences division and school system in NC.  She serves as a judge during the ECU Research & Creativity Week and supports the honors students in the College of Nursing.  She is an inspiration and outstanding nurse educator.
