As professor, Dr. Carolyn has more than 33 years of clinical, research, academic and informatics experience. She has implemented over 23 enterprise projects over the past 12 years both nationally and internationally, including living and managing projects in the UK with the National Health System and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
Dr. Sipes ' extensive NIH grant-funded research on the execution of care for AIDS patients has been published widely and presented at conferences including the American Nurses Association Biennial Convention. As a research scientist for a pharmaceutical company, she was the principle investigator who designed and developed the TOMA - tolerability of medication assessment instrument and presented the research at International World AIDS in Barcelona. She is an active member of American Medical Informatics Association, American Nurses Informatics Association, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Project Management Institute and is a founding member of the National Association for Health Services Research Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.
As a NIH Fellow, she holds a PhD/doctoral degree from Rush University in Chicago, Master 's and Bachelor 's degrees from Northern Ill University. She has taught in the diploma, associate, baccalaureate, graduate, and DNP levels, functioned as a Nursing Informatics (NI) SME, developed informatics courses, and functioned as an NI Specialty coordinator. She is certified in eight Epic clinical applications and ANCC board certification in NI and NEA-BC. In one role as consultant, she developed proprietary informatics competency skill assessments for EHRs. She founded, is President and CEO for The Center for EHR Program Management, LLC. She has published the "Project Management for Advance Practice Nurses and Applications of Informatics and Technology in Nursing Practice: Competencies, Skills, Decision €“Making" textbooks as well as numerous other peer-reviewed publications, books and book chapters, presented both nationally and internationally.
Concurrently, Dr. Sipes is president and CEO of The Center for EHR Program Management, LLC, a healthcare informatics consulting company. Dr. Sipes ' informatics experience includes senior VP positions at Healthcare Informatics Associates (HIA), Accenture and IBM/HealthLink, and other corporations, certified as a PMP. She is a certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive (NEA - BC) and informatics nursing specialist (RN-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and has taught healthcare informatics for more than 12 years, overall 33 years teaching experience as Assistant, Associate and Professor. She is passionate about teaching and brings this extensive expertise to the classroom.
