I met Amanda the summer after our first year of the nursing program here at UW. She trained me as the new Student Nurse Assistant on the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology floor at the American Family Children's Hospital. I immediately knew why Amanda was going to make such an outstanding nurse.  Every staff member, other nursing assistants, nurses, and health unit coordinators adore Amanda, respect her, and can always rely on her to go above and beyond at work. As I work the AM shifts, she takes report from me and will always pick up the slack and handle it so professionally. Not only did I learn nursing assistant tasks from her, I learned how much she cares for these patients and why everyone admires her. She is always in good spirits. She was placed in my group for a class in the fall and she would never miss a class, though I knew she worked until 11:30 PM the night before and had to ensure that her son made it to preschool on time. She is extremely selfless and such an overall wonderful person. I could not imagine balancing this academic rigor, clinical hours, work, a family, etc., and she makes it look effortless. She will be an amazing nurse.
