During the Danielle's capstone rotation she demonstrated what a new graduate nurse should entail. She asked many appropriate questions, was aware of her surroundings and eager to answer call lights, IV pumps, alarms, etc.
Danielle communicated very well with staff and patients, carried a professional appearance and attitude with every shift and was compassionate to all she cared for. During the Danielle's first shift we had to withdraw care on a patient. While waiting for family to arrive she stayed in the room holding the patient's hand and comforting them. Many staff in the unit recognized that and commented to me how encouraged they were to see that in a student. Throughout the rotation Danielle demonstrated excellent time management skills and an appropriate level of competence in her nursing skills. I have oriented many nurses to our unit who have experience and this student was far more exceptional in her ability to learn and absorb the teachings and instructions I gave. Danielle has the beginnings of a solid critical care thinking foundation. This student is headed in the right direction to becoming an exceptional critical care nurse.
