Nicholas tutors and mentors students in general education classes such as Computer Science Information, Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, and Probability and Statistics. His sessions include one hour sessions up to two times a week and focus on how students are performing in class, how they are adjusting to college, and future success tips for graduation and overall success for a college student moving forward.
He has worked on pieces of legislation, including renaming the Culp Center and installing the Prisoner of War/Missing In Action chair in the football stadium. He is the Secretary of Interior which entails directing a Junior Senate Program in the fall for students who are prospective SGA members and overseeing the Spring 2020 elections for the incoming Student Government senators and executive branch Nicholas participated in the Buccaneer Involvement Guide for the fall of the 2019 semester. The job puts a student leader who is a part of Preview Orientation Leaders Organization into a Foundations of Student Success course. These leaders serve as a guide and a mentor in a class with responsibilities of academic review while also being required to check in on students twice a semester. One of the many rewarding aspects of the job, according to Nicholas is "we coordinate an out of class activity to get everyone involved. We are essentially the bridge between a student and a professor."
Nicholas has been a Peer Ambassador for two years now under the directions of the advisors in the nursing department. He serves as a student support for students seeking entrance into the nursing program and assists with orientation events, open house events, and during the advisement period.
In three years, he has worked each orientation that the university held for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Nicholas works with the aid of informational, educational, extracurricular opportunities the university has to offer.
Nicholas has worked many Ballad Volunteer Events through volunteering with the Niswonger Children's Hospital. During his high school and college years he has been gratefully able to volunteer over 150 hours within the community for St. Jude and Niswonger.
As of lately, Nicholas was invited to be a part of the Family Advisory Council for the Children's Hospital. According to Nicholas, "This allows me to express my time as a patient when I was 15 years of age to hopefully improve patient safety and satisfactory rates. An event I have been blessed to partake in is the Spooky Trail event at the Children's Hospital for immune-suppressed patients and their parents to trick-or-treat on Halloween day."
