Christina Tomkins, M.S.N., C.R.N.P., P.H.R.N., assistant professor of nursing, received the award during a ceremony in John J. Passan Hall, the home of the College of Health Sciences at Misericordia University. She received the award after being nominated by faculty colleagues, nursing students and alumni of the program for being ?very knowledgeable and caring to all her students, and genuinely wants them to succeed,?? according to one nomination narrative. Tomkins, a Dallas Twp., resident, is the junior-level coordinator of the nursing program. She has a diverse background in nursing with areas of expertise in critical care, emergency, trauma and pre-hospital nursing. Her primary areas of instruction include pediatrics, obstetrics and medical/surgical nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Emergency Nurses Association, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, and the American College of Nurse Practitioners. ?Tina Tomkins was a supportive instructor who took a great deal of her personal time to help students achieve their goal of obtaining a BSN,?? another nomination form stated. ?The level of support was above and beyond her duty. She was available on weekends. There were many weekday nights that Tina stayed late to assist me with a concept that I may not have grasped or just to reassure me that I would be a great nurse. Tina is a shining example of compassion and understanding ? qualities that are heartfelt, not taught.??
