Dr. Catherine Earl exemplifies excellence in teaching nursing. *** Dr. Earl uses evidence-based practice, guided by her research, to teach nursing. Her publications provide thoughtful recommendations for faculty who teach in the classroom and clinical area. Dr. Earl's international experience has provided an opportunity for her to conduct research in South America. Her contributions found in her publications include recommendations for teaching nursing applying an evidence-based approach. *** Dr. Earl provides an environment conducive to learning and critical thinking. She demonstrates care and compassion with students in the classroom and the clinical environment as well as respectful and equal treatment to individual students. *** As Dr. Earl teaches Nursing Ethics she is always "present" to encourage students to conduct discussions in a professional and collegial manner. She participated in a "group work" subcommittee focused on creating policy for expectations of student behavior in the classroom. Dr. Earl consistently reminds her students to "be kind to one another" and models this belief when teaching. *** Dr. Earl displays a personal interest in student learning. If students have challenges with Blackboard their learning is facilitated through phone calls and clarification of assignments, so students do not "get behind". Dr. Earl has made multiple accommodations when requested to add students to her class beyond the capstone for the course. If students add late, Dr. Earl contacts them to update them on assignments and provide clarification. The recent transition from APA 6th edition to APA 7th edition has afforded the opportunity to help students master new guidelines for writing papers. *** Dr. Earl continues to respond to student requests for letters of reference as they pursue advanced degrees. Dr. Earl encourages students to seek higher levels of education, as a key concept in life-long learning. *** Dr. Earl mentors faculty to facilitate their professional development. In addition, she participates in the culminating activity (with students), providing mentorship for students related to life-long learning, research, and leadership.
