I have worked with Leslie during multiple clinicals during our time at Chamberlain and at every clinical no matter what class we're in Leslie goes above and beyond for her patients. There was a patient Leslie had during our Adult Medical Surgical clinical rotation who was admitted for stomach pain and she was extremely jaundiced. I remember how the patient was waiting for her daughter to come to visit her the entire shift, but it was taking a long time, and the patient had to go down for an endoscopy procedure. Leslie offered to accompany the patient for pre-op because she was afraid of going, and Leslie actually got to stay during the procedure, and with her patient for post-op. I thought it was really nice how she stayed with her during the entire thing, even though we're only there for 12 hours, it's nice for patients to go through procedures no matter how invasive or non-invasive they are, with a familiar face. The reason I remember this specific story is because the doctor that was assigned to this patient wanted to just go in and tell the patient that she has pancreatic cancer when she didn't have any family in the room. So, Leslie advocated for her patient by asking her nurse to ask the doctor to hold off on telling the patient her diagnosis until her daughter arrived, so that way she could have better emotional support. The doctor was in a rush and was hesitant about agreeing to wait because he "had other patients", but he did! So, even though the patient had a poor diagnosis she was given the emotional support she needed. Not only does Leslie go above and beyond for her patients, she also goes above and beyond for her classmates. During one of our clinicals I skipped breakfast and almost passed out being my blood sugar was low, and every clinical after that Leslie would make sure that I ate breakfast if I had time and she always brings me protein bars just in case I start to feel like my blood sugar is low again.
