BIo Dr. Terri Schmitt is an Assistant Professor at Chamberlain College of Nursing and has been in nursing for almost 20 years. She received her diploma degree in nursing from St. John?s College of Nursing, BSN from Missouri State University, MSN with an emphasis as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Missouri State University, and her Ph.D. in nursing science from the University of Missouri Kansas City. She is also a Family Nurse Practitioner and diabetes educator who practices in pediatric endocrinology in West Palm Beach, FL. She is active in social media and in several nursing organizations in including the ANA, FNA, Sigma Theta Tau International, NAPNAP, AANP, and NONPF. She remains active in several organizations serving on committees involving students, scholarships, and technology, and has past served as president and communication chair of the Theta Lambda STTI Chapter. She currently serves on the editorial board of Annals of Nursing and Practice, runs the blog nursestory.com, has served as an expert panelist on the Nursing Show podcast, and has lead twitter discussions on nursing. She also serves as a reviewer of technology, pediatric, and diabetes submissions in several peer reviewed journals. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, playing out doors, and reading anything interesting. She whole-heartedly believes what the media guru Nurse Phil Baumann says that, ?Nurses are the last Jedi Knights of the Republic?. Nomination Information Dr. Schmitt is very passionate about the profession of nursing. It is evident in her enthusiasm and engagement with her students. Her teaching style facilitates collaboration between the students as well as herself. She encouraged us to do our very best and made her self available to provide additional guidance as needed. I've really enjoyed being in her class! I was fortunate to have Dr. Terri Schmitt as my nursing informatics instructor. She exemplifies nursing excellence! Her passion for the nursing profession is distinctly demonstrated in her teaching ethics. She inspires her students to become the nurse leaders they were meant to be. Throughout the course she expounded on the importance of nursing informatics, encouraged thought-provoking discussion, and became your personal cheerleader. That is why I believe that Dr. Terri Schmitt should the recipient of the DAISY Faculty Award. This teacher is actually meant to be a teacher. She has a friendly soul. She disperses positive energy onto her students. In return, her students disperse that positive energy out in the world. I had Dr. Schmitt for the Nursing Informatics class. Beginning the class, I was unsure of the nursing informatics role, but Dr. Schmitt presented the material in a manner in which the topic became clear. Dr. Schmitt's discussion questions and contributions were developed well and she inspired the class to explore, investigate, and research each question. Dr. Schmitt provided useful positive and constructive feedback. Her enthusiasm for nursing, teaching, and the profession was very evident. The assignments created a positive learning enviornment. Through the discussions, Dr. Schmitt demonstrated respect, patience, caring, and ignited excitement with her follow-up questions and comments. I feel so much more confident with nursing informatics and it was a useful 8 weeks. This was the third MSN class I have taken at Chamberlain. Dr. Schmitt represented the school in a positive and professional manner and created an excitement for me to continue.
