During her OB rotation, Karla Dailey showed compassion and caring for patients in L & D. One patient had suffered a fall just two days prior to delivery and had a fractured radius and ulna. This patient wanted to breastfeed her child but the staff was overheard saying the patient should just bottle feed. At post conference, the faculty learned that Karla Dailey had found her patient discouraged after trying to nurse for 30 minutes. Karla assisted with helping the patient reposition and showed her a mechanism of breastfeeding. Afterwards the patient expressed gratitude for Karla's assistance. There is not a doubt that Karla made a difference in not only the patient's care, but in a healthier beginning for the infant, allowing the infant to get the antibodies and nutrition that only breastfeeding can afford.
