Jennifer did a phenomenal job of helping the nurse understand that it was the patient's decision and the nurse's job to uphold that decision.
Jennifer came to us as a traveling nurse and let us talk her into staying on as a full-time nurse. The nightshift staff at VPH is very young and Jennifer's experience is helpful and a true asset to everyone - coworkers, charge nurses, and the manager. We truly rely on her to bring that depth of experience that is desperately needed to our nightshift staff.
Recently, we had a patient that made the difficult decision to stop further medical interventions. He made peace with his family and friends and requested to be placed on comfort care. The nurse caring for this patient was distressed with this decision because the patient was awake and alert. Jennifer provided this nurse and the nightshift team the support they needed that enabled this patient's nurse to carry out his wishes.Jennifer did a phenomenal job of helping the nurse understand that it was the patient's decision and the nurse's job to uphold that decision.
Jennifer, along with the charge nurse, stayed with the patient and played religious music providing the presence/environment that both patient and nurse desperately needed. We are all so appreciative of Jennifer's presence in our unit.
