Lauren Frost was my nurse and she, like the others rendered professional care with personal service. Lauren came into my room one evening to check on me. My husband and I lost our 23-year-old son, C 7 months earlier while in the US Navy and I wanted someone to talk with. I asked Lauren if she had time to sit down and let me tell her about our son C. Now I am a Registered Nurse and I did floor nursing at one point in my career and I know time is not something that floor nurses have an abundance of. Nonetheless, Lauren sat down and let me share several stories about our beautiful C. She was patient, attentive and she really listened. Not long after I was discharged, I received a telephone call from Dr. V who was a family friend. He said he had spoken with a nurse on the 5th floor and she asked for my number. Lauren and I made contact and she said she had something made for me and she wanted to give it to me. It was great to hear from Lauren and without hesitation, I gave her our address. Lauren came over and we talked for a while then she gave me a Christmas Bag. I opened it up and there was a beautiful ornament that had been handmade for me. It was a ball that had a face and navy blue and glittered, silver wings on it. C's name was printed at the bottom of the angel and when I turned the ball around it read "Sending love from Heaven 2020." I was so very touched by this generous act of love. We have put the ornament in a beautiful spot. It sits in a curio cabinet with other treasures such as the dried roses from the wreath that we had made for C's funeral. Lauren and I met for lunch and it was a delight to meet Hudson and talk with Lauren. I felt so relaxed with her. She wrote me a letter as well that reads: "Mrs. C, I had many things that I wanted to say to you that I never got the chance to which is why I am writing you this letter. I needed you to know what an impact you have made in my life. I came home from work that night I learned about C and I cried hard. I prayed even harder. I will forever remember you and your husband and of course, C. I feel incredibly blessed that you chose me to share some of your most precious memories with. I won't forget that he gave himself a tattoo with a gadget he made. I won't forget that his Christmas tradition was to jump in the pool no matter what the temperature was outside. I won't forget that you had a street named after him as a surprise to your son and husband. I won't forget that you put on your lipstick only to kiss your boys as they headed out the door. Thank you for sharing those memories with me. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for everything that you taught me in the 12 hours I cared for you than I ever thought possible. You have opened my heart and forever have a place there. I will forever be grateful our paths crossed. Please take care and please know that you and your family will always be in my prayers. I will never forget you. With so much love, Lauren Frost."
