Hospital leaders often find their way here, too. This is because Angelia is a great listener and stands ready to offer “positive feedback” if necessary – as she is, admittedly, a friendly talker.
Angelia Lloyd-Busby, RN, Director of Nursing, Nursing Administration & Centralized Staffing Office (CSO) and Interim Director of Nursing, Clinical Education Department, is often smiling, positively communicating, using her great sense of humor to cheer others, and forward-thinking. She's often sought out to lead projects because she is an effective change agent. Her commitment and dedication to Parkland (nursing) are unwavering, as witnessed in her gracious acceptance of her new role as the Interim Director of Clinical Education. This request was made of her as a display of the respect she's earned as a transformational leader due to her history of collaborating effectively with internal and external customers. Angelia is a great example of "Nursing Excellence"!!
"Angelia Lloyd-Busby", as we may affectionately call her in the Nursing Admin office, maintains an open-door policy for those of us in the office as well as for the CSO staff. Hospital leaders often find their way here, too. This is because Angelia is a great listener and stands ready to offer "positive feedback" if necessary - as she is, admittedly, a friendly talker.
One of the main reasons why I am willing to happily write this letter of nomination is because I learned a new catchphrase while I was in grad school a few years ago and Angelia allowed me to frequently utilize it with her - as a challenge to both of us. The phrase is "reverse management". Thus, whenever we meet, Angelia is receptive to my suggestions for how she can improve and/or how we can improve my role, her role, our department, my service line, Parkland nursing, etc. This has truly been inspirational, especially since we share many of the same professional perspective ideas. Angelia was one of my greatest cheerleaders for returning to college after 24-years and graciously served as one of my personal references after having written a letter of recommendation for me to participate in the grad school program that I did.
"Mrs. Busby", as she is known in the community, actively participates in her Black Greek Letter Organization of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She volunteered and serves also as Den Leader for her son's Cub Scout Troop. She is Team Mom for her daughter's select volleyball club. Her service to community, currently being expressed here at work, was evidenced recently in her guidance, support of, collaboration with, and participation in the PHHS Black History programs: The Presence of Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLO's) and The Importance & Influence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), as well as in coordinating and leading the Metroplex Black Nurses Association (MBNA) - Dallas Chapter meeting held here at Parkland Health & Hospital System over the past weekend. The latter being an informational session whereby MBNA could promote the National Black Nurses Association's Mission "to represent and provide a forum for black nurses to advocate and implement strategies to ensure access to the highest quality of healthcare for persons of color".
I believe that her accessibility, critical thinking skills, problem-solving activities, mentoring, and genuine elevation of Parkland nursing are valuable assets that she maintains which indicate she meets the criteria of a DAISY Nurse Leader.
