My mother-in-law was admitted to 3 west. I love my mother-in-law, BUT she can "Worry the LORD himself off the cross." I'm a nurse too. I've been a nurse for over 20 years and must say and know how it is when you have a full load of patients and when 1 of them thinks they are the only one.
Being on the opposite end of the patient/family side has definitely been an enlightening one, to say the least. I've learned the "why" when it comes to the patient's perception of time. (5min in reality often seems likes 5 hours to the patient). Time in a hospital room seems to drag on, and with you not being able to see familiar sites or people it's easy to get disoriented to things such as time. If anything, I've gained a deeper sympathy and hopefully more patience for those I care for in the future.
Fregi has that patience. The patience of Job. She was understanding, listened to the patient, advocated for her, put up with my mother-in-law's "attitude" when my mother-in-law would give it to her, and did it all (I'm assuming) with a smile under her masked face. Even when I had to come out of the room for a breather myself (cause even I needed them), Fregi met me with a listening ear and a box of tissues when I just had to cry. She always stayed professional and was one of the few people who actively communicated with me regarding my mother-in-law's care and kept us updated on her progress as she knew it. A simple explanation was always provided (even when I knew why we were doing a procedure or scan) she made sure she also communicated the why and closed the loop on all communications with us. She never became (or at least never showed) that she was offended or upset if we had questions or questioned the care she provided. She is an amazing nurse. Fregi definitely is a DAISY Nurse.
