Jean is what we call a "nurse's nurse". This is a nurse who is trustworthy, a role-model for all, and one who always shares her knowledge and expertise day after day, shift after shift.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and recommend Jean Stone RN as a Daisy award nominee.
For nearly 50 years, Jean has gone above and beyond for her Health-Alliance patients, families, co-workers, and community. The DAISY Award was created to recognize extraordinary nursing care, and there is no one more deserving of this award than Jean Stone. Back in January of 2020, we admitted our first COVID-19 positive patient to the MSU. This was all new territory for our nursing staff, and Jean was at the forefront of providing compassionate and quality care to our positive COVID-19 patients throughout the pandemic beginning on day one. She has consistently provided supportive and empathetic care to her patients and families day after day throughout this pandemic.
Jean was presented with many new and different challenges caring for our COVID-19 patients including the constant donning and doffing of PPE, dealing with the constant stress of possible exposures, clustering care in efforts to provide her patients with all of their clinical and emotional needs, and communicating effectively in isolation. Her years of exemplary nursing service brought forth her exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize under tremendous stress and fatigue.
Whether Jean was caring for her own patients, or willingly helping a co-worker in need of assistance, Jean did so, because she truly cares for her patients' wellbeing, putting their needs before hers or anyone else's. As an expert nurse, Jean can foresee and expect changes in her patients' clinical status before others do. Jean consistently applies her critical thinking, astute nursing judgment, and strong-decision making skills in every aspect of the exceptional care that she provides to her patients. She takes the time to speak to them and laugh with them, she has held many hands, cried with many, and advocated for all.
Jean is what we call a "nurse's nurse". This is a nurse who is trustworthy, a role-model for all, and one who always shares her knowledge and expertise day after day, shift after shift. She is compassionate, supportive, to the point, and she is always the calm in our chaos. When Jean could have easily retired, as she had planned, she decided to stay on throughout the pandemic because as she stated, "I'm not ready, I can't leave my girls in this mess, I want to stay and help them through this, I'll let you know when I'm ready." Well the time has come, and I want to thank Jean and celebrate her endless professional and personal contributions to her Health-Alliance family of patients, families, co-workers and especially "her girls". Your committed nursing career, endless dedication, and your personal perseverance are well appreciated and highly respected by all. Thank you, Jean, we recognize you for always going above and beyond for all!
