Garrett started in GFH as a PCA, then became an RN on T3. Over a year ago he transferred to the OR. Over the last week, he has been doing shifts on T3 due to the pause in elective surgeries and the increased number of COVID patients admitted to the hospital.
Garrett is always an upbeat and extremely helpful colleague who is willing to help anyone with whatever is needed. Since being back on T3, he has jumped right back into the fray and accepted whatever assignment has been doled out. On his third shift back on the floor (New Year's Eve), he made it through an extremely busy day shift (remember he has been caring for 1 patient at a time for over a year and his assignment was 6 patients!) and he did with a smile. I came in to work as Charge on the evening/overnight shift and was also assigned a full group. We were extremely short-staffed. Everyone was going at full speed and barely staying afloat. Garrett called to check-in and to see if anything was happening to celebrate the New Year. Unfortunately, no one had time to do anything, barely even time to manage meal breaks. The next thing I know, Garrett arrived on the unit with pizzas, ice cream, and tons of snacks so everyone could grab something to eat. Since we were so short and still getting admissions, he cleared it with staffing to clock in and resource the floor to help out. After working a full 8-hour busy day shift, Garrett came back in for another 3 hours to help us through med pass- while admitting 5-6 new patients. That night Garrett was a Godsend! I hope the OR knows what they got when he transferred. Garrett is definitely one of the good ones!
