Casey kept encouraging me I could do it, and it's what I needed to hear. Next thing I knew we had delivered another baby, with our friend Casey.
Finding out you are pregnant is an amazing feeling. That feeling can slip as you realize the world we live in has so greatly changed. With a pandemic on our hands, we knew that our birthing plan and the idea of bringing our first child to meet our second wasn't going to happen. What we did know was that we could trust the staff at the GFH Snuggery to make us feel at home.
We were lucky enough to have Casey Burns as our delivery nurse for both pregnancies.
In 2018, we were scared of becoming first-time parents and had a 36-hour labor. Casey was there for us every step of the way. I needed chapstick- she got it, I felt like I couldn't breathe- she had essential oils. Anything and everything that I didn't know I needed. She pulled out all the stops and made our birthing experience so much more enjoyable and relaxing.
Fast forward to 2020 we entered the snuggery to many familiar faces- thankfully Casey was one of them.
I knew that COVID would stop us from having visitors- so that part of my birth plan was out, however having an epidural was one thing I knew I wanted. Casey feverishly started admitting me to try and help me get an epidural. Labor began to progress quicker, to the point where I was begging for anesthesia to arrive. With each contraction, Casey tried to ease my pain with conversation. I mostly just had her talk because I couldn't add much to the conversation. She distracted me, and that's what I needed. After my final plea for an epidural, she stated that I could do this without it. Casey kept encouraging me I could do it, and it's what I needed to hear. Next thing I knew we had delivered another baby, with our friend Casey.
Casey is the epitome of an excellent nurse. She is kind, compassionate, caring, and prepared. We were so happy to see so many of the same faces when we came back to the Snuggery. I was lucky enough to squeeze Casey's hand and lean on her for two deliveries- one during a pandemic.
