Hearing the patient's distress, Wendi entered the room with calming presence for over two hours, she held the patient's hand, talked to her, explained everything to her, and soothed her.
In labor and delivery, we had a young woman come in, in labor with her first baby. She was progressing quickly and had a lot of anxiety. Although Wendi's "role" was clinician (catch and care for the baby) she stayed by my labor patient's side from the time she arrived until the time she delivered. Wendi stayed at the bedside for over 4 hours straight to help breathe with the patient, talk to her, and calm her anxiety. I am 100% certain Wendi made a great impact in my patient's labor and I am so grateful for her and the care she provided to my patient. Wendi stayed and helped the patient when she didn't have to, but because she wanted to. Wendi is a rock star nurse and cares for our patients like those we love the most.

Wendi was assigned to another area of the department. An employee's niece was admitted for inpatient care from triage. The patient was calm and cooperative until she realized she was going to be admitted. At that point, she panicked, and her anxiety skyrocketed. She began to scream, and she was uncooperative with any treatment offered or needed. Hearing the patient's distress, Wendi entered the room with calming presence for over two hours, she held the patient's hand, talked to her, explained everything to her, and soothed her. Her presence allowed the patient to cope with her care and allowed the nurse to complete all necessary tasks for a safe outcome.
With this nurse by her side, the patient did not fight, refuse care, or scream again. Wendi truly demonstrated our service standards and made a difference in this patient's life. Later, the patient said she would not have made it through her hospitalization without this nurse helping her through her anxiety. She kept the patient safe and demonstrated love. We are grateful!
