Kelly hasn’t just embraced change, but she has modeled the grace and flexibility it takes to be a shining star in a rough time in healthcare. Kelly brought along the staff in ways I couldn't and she preached positivity on a regular basis.
Since coming to 4 East as the new Clinical Manager in October of 2019, Kelly has been my rock steady and the unit's backbone through every ebb and flow. Kelly has been a nurse with Meritus Medical Center and Washington County Hospital for 32 years. In those "few" years of nursing, she has proven to be cool, calm, collected, innovative, compassionate, direct, courageous, honest, clinically sound, and overall an amazing being.
Kelly can always be counted on and counts on everyone else to perform at nothing less than the potential she sees in them. Kelly is referred to as the unit's "mother" because she truly loves her staff unconditionally, but isn't afraid to tell them like it is!
Over this past year, Kelly has consistently role modeled on the unit as our Resource Nurse, has stepped in as interim manager, has served on the Innovations Council, and was an important member of designing the new RICU. Leadership comes naturally to Kelly and I have been fortunate enough to learn from a seasoned pro.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Kelly hasn't just embraced change, but she has modeled the grace and flexibility it takes to be a shining star in a rough time in healthcare. Kelly brought along the staff in ways I couldn't and she preached positivity on a regular basis. Kelly can always be relied upon to bring humor to the table which eases anxieties and helps everyone operate in their new norm as if they had been doing this all along. Not only did she lead her team, but she helped implement the majority of our new processes. She organized PPE, provided feedback on how to customize new procedures to our unit's flow, and still remained focused on quality care by designing audit tools and following up on gaps in care with the nursing staff.
Kelly received a Healthcare Hero Award and an Exceeding Expectations Award this year for assisting a patient with connecting with his family when he had no means to contact them by using her own personal resources. The is one small example of the amazing nurse she is and I think it sheds light on how holistic and warmhearted she is to her patients. Kelly truly embodies a DAISY Nurse.
Although I have only worked alongside Kelly for a sliver of her career, it has been my blessing, honor, and privilege to be able to call her a colleague, confidant, teacher, and friend. A mother to many, a mentor to all, and a nurse without bounds. Without her, the 4 East family would be lost and we could not be more honored to work alongside her.
