With Brittany's help, this patient was able to receive high-quality, compassionate care.
One day I was caring for a critical patient in a smaller room. I called Brittany from CT to let her know that my patient had a AAA and was actively dissecting. I told her that when we were finished in CT, I needed help and needed to use the trauma room because it was much bigger than the room I had been treating the patient in. My patient needed emergency release blood quickly. The department was full, and all of the critical care rooms were occupied already. Without hesitation, she immediately ran to the blood bank to get emergency release blood for me and had everything set up by the time I made it to the trauma room with the patient. Together we rapidly transfused the patient with multiple units of blood and were able to keep the patient calm and informed. After we finished transfusing, she made multiple phone calls for me to set up the transfer of this patient so that I could remain with my patient to monitor him. This patient had many chronic health problems and ultimately chose to return home on hospice instead of undergoing another surgery. Due to Brittany's quick action and assistance, I was able to provide compassionate care to this patient and his dear friend while keeping them informed every step of the way. With Brittany's help, this patient was able to receive high-quality, compassionate care. This is just one example out of many times Brittany has jumped in and had a coworker's back. Our department and organization are extremely lucky to have her as part of our team.
