Lauren was my comfort, she was my peace, and I truly don't know if I'll ever be able to express that to her.
Where do I even begin with the exceptional care that was provided to me by Lauren? Lauren and I became friends many years ago and have remained friends, been in each other's weddings, and been each other's shoulder for many occasions throughout our lives. I knew that when I came in for an induction that I would receive excellent care, but what I did not know is that the care that she provided to me would be so much more than that. I knew from the moment I walked into my room and she greeted me that she loved her job, she loved the hospital she worked for, and she was going to give it her all to take care of me - more than just because we had a relationship outside of a patient/nurse relationship.
Lauren was very informative, giving me all of my options and explaining to me every single step she was taking to ensure that my care was at the highest level. She gave me her opinions when I asked for it but always made sure to let me know that I was in charge of my care, that my decision is what mattered most. She was a true advocate, so much so, that as her friend I was so proud to see her shine. She held my hand, made me smile, and showed me what it means to truly "love what you do."
When it was time to head back for a C-section, she was right there, holding my hand and assuring me that I was in the best hands. She was my comfort, she was my peace, and I truly don't know if I'll ever be able to express that to her. I got nauseous shortly after delivery and even though emesis is not her favorite, it was Lauren who was right there, wiping my mouth and with a cold towel on my forehead telling me how beautiful my baby boy was. I am not much of a crier but as I sit here typing this to relive my experience at Woman's Hospital, it was Lauren who helped in making it so special. She made me so proud to know her and love her, and I know that the care she provides to the patients of Woman's Hospital is the best care they could possibly receive.
