In the middle of the night, Brittany and Sam went far beyond the call of duty. Brittany and Sam helped a patient who had been on our unit for a month; a patient who has been receiving end-of-life treatment, with no formal place to go. They took it upon themselves to get her into a shower chair and give her a shower. They got the necessary items to get all the snarls out of her hair and they braided it. The patient, who is largely nonverbal and difficult to soothe, fell asleep with her head on Sam's lap while Brittany braided her hair. Their actions demonstrate the virtues and values we espouse in our unit and in our organization. I have been continually struck by their leadership, their caring hearts, and their dedication to their careers. I wish to thank you for who you are and all that you do; not just in this instance but each and every day.
