Shantelle provided my mom excellent medical care in the ICU as all the nurses did. What set Shantelle apart was that she also ministered to my mom's psychological and spiritual needs as well. She seemed to actually care about my mom as a whole person, not just as someone with medical issues. When surgery was presented as an option, Shantelle patiently talked over what could be expected with the surgery so that it seemed a bit less scary to my mom and me.
When surgery was scheduled, Shantelle requested to come in on her scheduled day off so that she could be there to care for my mom post-surgery. She knew it would help her to see someone she knew and trusted as she was first recovering. Shantelle also knew that I would rest easier trusting that someone who cared would be tending to her immediately after surgery. Shantelle showed through her actions that she was on my mom's team and ready to do all she could to help my mom have the best outcome possible.
