The quick adjustment to normal procedures and processes was an unexpected and incredibly thoughtful gesture based on the unique patient circumstances.
Niki Hanson was recognized by a staff member for continually going above and beyond for patients while she worked at the COVID-19 testing site. Hanson's nominator shared this anecdote:
My uncle is dying, and his child (my cousin) is a student and needed to get home. My cousin also needed to be tested for COVID-19 before entering the home. When my cousin arrived at the testing site, there was a long wait and my cousin was told to leave and come back the next day. My cousin was desperate and asked to speak to a nurse. After speaking with the nurse, my cousin was moved to the front of the line.
This relieved a mountain of stress on the family, and my cousin was able to go home and be with family. The quick adjustment to normal procedures and processes was an unexpected and incredibly thoughtful gesture based on the unique patient circumstances.
