Ruksana has shown that through her compassion and professionalism she truly makes a difference for so many women who are often isolated and scared.
Ruksana is a very special midwife who I feel proud to nominate for this DAISY Award. Safeguarding is seen often as a difficult area of work, we read negative reports that regularly highlight the failings of health professionals and NHS Trusts in safeguarding and domestic abuse. With victims of abuse repeatedly reporting that they were failed by professionals and they were never asked simple questions such as 'Are you safe' 'Is anyone hurting you?' Ruksana recently shared her own professional story and experience as part of the Trust's 16 Days of Action Campaign.
She shared her experience and story in order to help and support other nurses and midwives who may not be as confident or who are anxious about safeguarding and how to ask 'those difficult questions'. Ruksana was able to demonstrate how through her own experience and how the role she has as a midwife places her in a very unique position.
As a frontline midwife, she develops a strong relationship with many vulnerable women with who she works. This relationship allows her the ability to ask those difficult questions and also provides that essential safe space that victims of abuse need. Ruksana has shown that through her compassion and professionalism she truly makes a difference for so many women who are often isolated and scared.
She is a shining example of a true safeguarding champion here at LTHT who goes above and beyond. I am so proud of Ruksana and I feel passionate about the positive impact she has in the lives of our most vulnerable patients. I feel proud to nominate such an inspirational midwife.
