Kim would not accept relief either. She wanted to be the one with him until the end.
Kim was assigned to C. She was assigned the same patients from the prior day. I believe her being sent this next day was divine intervention. One of her patients (an unfortunate 24-year-old) that she had cared for several times in both CVICU and ICU had a major event that led to emergent resuscitative bedside open thoracotomy and open cardiac massage. He did not survive the event (the family made him a DNR afterward), he passed away a few hours later.

When asked if the family was coming (he was a transfer from another facility and had no local family) Kim said, "No, but I'll be with him." And she was, she stood by his bedside, eventually pulled up a chair and sat with him, rubbing his head, stroking his hair, and speaking to him softly, comforting him as he passed away peacefully. Kim would not accept relief either. She wanted to be the one with him until the end. She is amazing and we love when she can work here with us!
