Leisa made me feel like I was her only patient, even while training another nurse with a full load of patients.
I am an IV Drug user. Leisa took care of me for many days without any judgment. She quickly almost immediately took care of every need and request and even took the time to get to know me and build a personal relationship. She didn't see the no-account addict and think I did this to myself and ignore my needs or make me feel like I was a lost cause, as so many have done in the past.
Instead, she gave me hope and encouragement and showed me that there are still people/nurses that are in the field that care, not about the why or what factors caused the hospitalization, but that only care about their patients, their present and future wellbeing. She made me feel like I was her only patient, even while training another nurse with a full load of patients. In my last two days, Leisa came to work even though she wasn't feeling well. As she was doing the last soak of my arm, she pulled out all the iodoform packing instead of the one inch. She had informed me of the fact that once she was finished wrapping my arm she could leave because she was sick.
So, you can imagine my surprise when I called for the head nurse that Leisa had introduced me to, so when she left I wouldn't be confused, but Leisa showed up instead and informed me she made a mistake. She said she didn't feel right about pulling all the packing out so instead of ignoring her gut feeling and leaving sick, she called my surgeon and waited on his return call to make sure she did the right thing. Then she came back and apologized and fixed it and that's just one reason she is a true DAISY Nurse.
