Genevieve
Bruton
,
RN
Cardiac Telemetry
Memorial Hospital at Gulfport
Gen was patient with him – answering all of his questions and speaking so that he could hear and understand.
During my hospitalization, I had amazing service from my RN's, techs, EVS, and food services. They all deserve recognition. However, one nurse, Gen, stands out. She was compassionate and respectful to me and my wife. I'm sure coffee service is not in her job description, but she would often bring me and my wife fresh cups. She had a way of concisely making her point without being overbearing or rude. She took time out of her busy schedule to listen to me when I was overwhelmed by my health condition, and she reassured me that I was going to be OK. She even came to the ICU to check on me and say a kind word after my bypass surgery. Gen went above and beyond expectations. I could not have asked for a better nurse.
*****
I would like to take this opportunity to nominate Genevieve Bruton for the DAISY Award. She was my father's nurse on the night shift.
Her communication skills were excellent. Soon after she began her shift, my dad began to question her regarding one of his meds. The med had been administered at a different time than he was accustomed to taking at home. Gen was patient with him - answering all of his questions and speaking so that he could hear and understand.
Following the conversation, she followed up with pharmacy, ordered the med, and administered it in a timely manner.
She has a great work ethic. Each time she came into the room, she performed a quick assessment, checking the IV, his O2, making sure he was comfortable and pain-free - once again listening patiently to questions and concerns. She exhibited professional, compassionate, caring behaviors and was knowledgeable about meds and treatments.
As a former nursing instructor, I have taught and observed student nurses, seasoned nurses, and other health care professionals from all disciplines. Gen Bruton is an exceptional young nurse. She is an asset to your organization and is a shining example of extraordinary compassion and showcases MHG's standards of Service, Teamwork, attitude, and respect.
