Once Paul received information that there was a company that would provide her with transportation, he called the patient to let her know and he offered to pay for her ride so she could get her infusion.
Paul is the epitome of a great nurse. He is good at what he does, has a great sense of humor, a great work ethic, and above all, he is a patient advocate. He has been helping out in the ATU with the Bamlanivimab infusions and has helped to make this "unit" a success. I have received positive feedback from staff and patients on Paul; I have heard him talking to patients in-person and on the phone and he has their best interests in mind. The one that sticks out is a patient that called and left a message that she had to cancel her infusion appointment. He asked the person at the desk to please call and find out why she was canceling to see if we couldn't get her in. It turned out that she no longer had transportation to come in, so Paul got the ball rolling on finding out if there is a company that accepts COVID+ passengers (as he said she lived too far for him to go pick-up).
Once Paul received information that there was a company that would provide her with transportation, he called the patient to let her know and he offered to pay for her ride so she could get her infusion. The patient stated she would get here and was added on as the last patient of the day. Toward the end of her infusion, she was texting on her phone and he joked with her that if she was texting to report him to his boss, his boss was already gone for the day. She told him that yes, in fact, she was. He was surprised and asked, "Oh, you know my boss?" and her reply was, "Yes, I do." It turns out that this patient is also a Banner employee who was very grateful for how everyone (most specifically Paul) didn't take her cancellation at face value, and instead, made it possible for her to come in for her infusion.
