,
RN
Emergency Department
Hancock Regional Hospital
Stephanee had a patient that was sent to the ED from an ECF. The patient was a DNR and very sick. The family was able to visit with the patient but left thinking that the patient would return to the ECF. The wait for transportation was greater than two hours. The patient took a turn for the worse. Stephanee advocated for medication that would help the patient to be comfortable. She also stayed with the patient, talking to her, and holding her hand while she passed away. She stayed after her shift was over to stay with the patient so that she didn't die alone. She was compassionate and caring not only for the patient but also when interacting with the family. She is a new nurse and she showed a great deal of caring, compassion, and dedicated care for her patient.
