Because of Lindsey, we knew that even when we couldn't be there, our baby was being loved and cared for!
Our son was born at only prematurely. I had a very scary, high-risk pregnancy and was told by numerous doctors that I would miscarry our baby. But God had different plans for our sweet boy! He had a long journey ahead.
Years earlier, I had visited several friends who had preemie babies, but that was my only experience in a NICU. Walking through the halls of the Advent Health Orlando NICU for the first time was a surreal experience. I remember my husband pushing me in my wheelchair past the discharge board where a baby who was born early was now being discharged after spending many months in the NICU! Such hope filled my heart as I imagined one day leaving with our baby!
My husband and I were quickly told that it would be a wise decision to choose a primary nurse for our son since we would be spending so many days there. We weren't quite sure how long our journey would be, but we agreed!
Around the second week, we met Lindsey for the first time. She was so kind and tender-hearted and genuinely cared about our baby. She was very knowledgeable and dedicated to the care of our baby! Lindsey had a light that was so special and brought joy into a very dark and scary time of our lives.
My husband and I agreed that we wanted to ask Lindsey to be our primary nurse. When she agreed, we were overjoyed! Lindsey and another nurse were both primaries for our son and we couldn't have been more blessed!
My husband and I visited our son in the NICU every single day for many days, but we have two other young daughters and there were many hours that we couldn't be there. Because of Lindsey, we knew that even when we couldn't be there, our baby was being loved and cared for! She was compassionate, understanding, and communicated everything so clearly to us!
After our baby's final surgery, Lindsey made sure she was scheduled to be there afterward and be by his side during the recovery process. This was such an assurance to us!
Lindsey never appeared to have a bad day! She was always so joyful and kept us so encouraged! When our son was finally ready to leave the NICU, we were so excited!! But a part of me was sad because I had developed a friendship with Lindsey and knew that we would miss her!
It is our pleasure and joy to nominate Lindsey for the DAISY Award! She is truly worthy of such an honor!
