Stephen went above and beyond to ensure my personal belongings were collected and found my wife in the ICU to make sure she got them.
During my several-day stay, I was privileged to be under Stephen's care and knew when he was on duty, it would be an extra-good day. Quick to listen and observe, he conveyed compassion while taking in the big picture regarding my condition and tailored his care to best meet my clinical personal needs.
A true patient advocate, his skill, persistence, attention to detail, and team mindset were evident throughout my stay. He ensured crisp and thorough communication with other staff while keeping me well informed. Most noteworthy was during a shift change one night, he stayed to make sure my condition and status were properly reflected in EPIC especially after noticing that I was still NPO for over 24 hours. He called the surgeon and confirmed there was not a medical reason to keep me NPO. What a relief that I was able to eat and drink again because of Stephen going the extra mile and could have remained NPO even longer. He also made a big difference for my wife early in my stay.
Upon completion of my surgery, I was transferred to ICU to address some complications I had. Upon receiving word of that, Stephen went above and beyond to ensure my personal belongings were collected and found my wife in the ICU to make sure she got them. Little things make big impressions. Stephen is the hallmark of professionalism and exceptional nursing. Clinically excellent, patient-focused, compassionate, and selfless, he made a huge difference to me and my family during that challenging week and we are grateful.
