I lived for the days that I knew Ginger was working because I knew I had someone who loved us and supported us. She knew medically what was going on but also she knew what we needed spiritually, emotionally, and mentally!
I can't even begin to describe how much love and compassion Ginger has given us. We spent 125 days in the NICU and she became our primary nurse at the end of October. After being there for over a month it made a huge difference!
I am a huge advocate for primary nurses because it relieves so much stress on the family, and they become your family. I can't count how many times she held me while I cried because we got bad news that day, or handed me a box of Kleenex. As much as she was there for us on the bad days, she was our biggest cheerleader on the good days! Ginger, aka GiGi, loves my daughter and we love her!
Ginger always went above and beyond. She never sugar-coated anything and told us exactly what we needed to hear. But she also encouraged us and when she knew we had enough for the day. She would tell people "they can't take anymore, come back another day". I lived for the days that I knew Ginger was working because I knew I had someone who loved us and supported us. She knew medically what was going on but also she knew what we needed spiritually, emotionally, and mentally! I can never ever begin to say enough thank you's to her. She saved us, and she loved our daughter as if she was her own. You can't find that kind of level of care anywhere! I wish that every time we came back to Cook Children's we could have her as our nurse because I truly believe that a nurse knows just as much, or maybe more, history of a patient than the doctor. We love Ginger and are forever thankful that God put her in our lives because I know God sent her to us!
