His aim to ensure that the staff are supported to provide the best possible care to the patients is evident in all that he does.
Bowen does his job every day with passion and purpose. His aim to ensure that the staff are supported to provide the best possible care to the patients is evident in all that he does. An example of this is when staff are struggling on the floor due to a busy assignment, Bowen jumps in and helps the nurses to prioritize or takes certain tasks off their plate. Many times, Bowen does those tasks himself. He listens, seeks to understand, and is fair in assessment of the situation and response. He is a committed professional that ignites engagement in others.
A most recent example is Bowen's willingness to take on the project of decreasing the patient risk for hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP). He worked with his ANM and bedside nurse to develop an improvement plan. Bowen implemented this plan in Aug. 2020. He educated on this plan by guiding and supporting the staff, sharing the importance of excellence in the care we provide to our patients (treating each one like family). The outcome of all this strong work is a decrease in the rate of HAP from 12 in the first three quarters to 1 in the last quarter of 2020.
Bowen has encouraged the team by promoting their hard work to achieve these wins He has a strong ability to connect with patients and families, as noted in his rounding and interactions with patients and families. He addresses all patient concerns, always remembering to follow up to ensure that once addressed, the patient continues to feel supported. An example is that we had a young woman dying of cancer who had young children. Bowen took the time to sit with the husband and children, supporting their physical and emotional needs while their mother was passing. After she passed, he connected with the husband again, ensuring that he was supported in the last step of this process.
Bowen changes his schedule and picks up extra shifts to support the Adult Services Units and his peers. He takes the time to listen and hear concerns of others and provide support on a personal level to his team. Bowen is a transformational thought leader. He is an asset to Kaiser Antioch and to the members/patients we serve.
