Even 10 months into this pandemic, when a lot of health care providers are burnt out, Sheree continues to bring joy to her patients while providing exceptional patient care that is medically very competent and compassionate.
I have worked with Sheree multiple times and always feel at ease when she is taking care ofmy patients. Today, we had an extremely sick patient together and I knew I could rely onSheree. She promptly called me in the morning to notify me of several critical lab values andalso included an updated set of vitals, so I could get a complete picture. The patient wasCOVID positive, in acute respiratory failure requiring high flow nasal cannula, was in renalfailure, liver failure, in Afib and had to receive Albumin and Platelets for a plannedERCP. In addition, he was extremely stubborn and continued to take off his oxygen ordisconnect it, get out of the bed and set of the bed alarm, or complain about a lot of things.
Sheree was in excellent spirits and even though she had to gown up multiple times per hour tore-orient the patient, connect him back to oxygen, draw labs, hang new fluids/platelets, or tostop the bed alarm, she never once complained. She went in there and encouraged the patientcontinuously, calmed him down and continued to re-explain his plan of care. Shedemonstrated great empathy and stated: He is lonely and that is why he is so stubborn. He justwants some control and cannot get comfortable. She then spoke to the patient's wife at lengthand calmed her fears and reminded me to call her for an update. Throughout the day, Shereecontinuously was in contact with me, making sure to always close the loop of communication,so nothing got missed on this extremely complicated patient. Even 10 months into thispandemic, when a lot of health care providers are burnt out, Sheree continues to bring joy toher patients while providing exceptional patient care that is medically very competent andcompassionate.
I am so glad I had Sheree to help me through this extremely difficult day, andI know she must have been so exhausted going home that day. And when I thanked her for allher hard work, she simply said in her humble way: Any of us would have done the samething. Sheree deserves to be recognized for her hard work, her excellent clinical skills, hercompassion and above all, her exceptional patient care. UK is lucky to have her.
