There are many stories I can tell about Julia, but overall she was just a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine when she came thru the door of our house.
There are many stories I can tell about Julia, but overall she was just a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine when she camethru the door of our house. The DAISY Award is a perfect description of Julia because she was a DAISY!!! She knew how tohandle the most difficult patient. She spent many hours at our house (I think many of those were on her own time). She wouldschedule her visits either the first one of her morning or the last one of the day. Sometimes she would arrive at 7am so she couldspend extra time with my husband trying to address each and every issue that he had. Believe me, there were many and still are!
Sometimes on her late visits, she would stay till 8 or 9 o'clock at night because she didn't want to leave until my husband was in a"happy" place and everyone in the household was at ease. She became a friend and confidant to me as I reached out to her onmany occasions any time of day or night for advice on how to deal with my husband, her patient. It's been a long 6 years since myhusband's accident. Julia was a wonderful patient advocate for him going way out of her way to make sure she addressedeach and every issue he had. She was definitely a "true" Nurse. She was a Nurse that went way above-and-beyond what anyonewould expect. She was in it for her patients and definitely not the money!!!
In Julia's memory, here is a poem by E. Brenneman that I would like to share:
"Don't think of her as gone awayher journey's just begun,
life holds so many facetsthis earth is only one.
Just think of her as restingfrom the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfortwhere there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishingthat we could know today
how nothing but our sadnesscan really pass away.
And think of her as livingin the hearts of those she touched...
for nothing loved is ever lostand she was loved so much."
This is Julia's 2nd DAISY Award!
