Mrs. Lamm took the initiative to connect with his family in another state, keeping them updated while keeping the patient comfortable until their arrival.
Healthcare providers working in the emergency department never truly know what type of patients they are going to encounter. Many are scared, and alone looking for resolutions to their illness and pain. Amy Lamm along with her colleagues in the Geisinger Community Medical Center Emergency Department exceeds all expectations. Mrs. Lamm was nominated by a colleague in the therapy department that was deployed during the COVID pandemic. She noted the extraordinary care that Mrs. Lamm took care of all her patients, but specifically, one that was alone, afraid, and may not get to see his family before passing. Mrs. Lamm took the initiative to connect with his family in another state, keeping them updated while keeping the patient comfortable until their arrival.
Mrs. Lamm earned a bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State University in 2002. Working as an office coordinator for an eye surgeon for 10 years. In 2013, two of her family members lost their battles to cancer. She was fortunate enough to be by both their sides throughout their difficult journey. While experiencing first-hand the outstanding care they received every step of the way by a variety of kind and compassionate nurses. Which is the reason that she decided to pursue a nursing degree.
Mrs. Lamm stated, "The ED is definitely not for everyone, but I absolutely love my job and love the team that I work with. Every day in the ED is different and challenging and that's what I enjoy the most about my job. This year we have overcome huge obstacles thrown at us, things that we never thought would happen, and as impossible and scary as they may have seemed at that time, we did it and we will continue to do it every day as a team!"
We at Geisinger are so proud to have Amy on our team! Congratulations!
