Our son is currently in the NICU; has been there seven nights now. This is our second time in the NICU as we were there for the same amount of time in 2019 when our daughter was born. We met Rebecca back then. So last week when my wife had some complications and had to have an emergency c-section, it was great to see her in the room as soon as our son was born.
In 2019 with our daughter, Rebecca's bedside manner was superb. She brings such positive energy to what many parents consider to be a low moment in their lives and has a way to bring smiles to faces and hope into what can feel like a hopeless situation.
It is amazing to see how well my children have reacted to her when they were being fussy or uncomfortable. She truly has a magic touch, and her depth of knowledge within her field is obvious. Any question we have had tends to receive a well-worded and easy-to-understand response. She also loves what she does despite the obvious stress of the job. Today my wife and I gave our son his first bath and she was right there with us and even had the state of mind to think what my wife and I were forgetting; that we would like a picture of that moment at which time she pushed the issue and asked us if we would like her to take one of our phones and document the moment.
Later on, my son was asleep in my arms and Rebecca came over just to comment on how cute his hair was, brought me a comb, and gave him a quick Mohawk with a smile. If neither my wife nor I am in the NICU; I have no concerns whatsoever if I know she is on shift.
Over the last few days, I learned that she will be moving on to a new job in a few weeks. While I am happy to see someone like her advance in their careers, it is unfortunate to see such a positive presence leave what can be a very depressing place such as the NICU.
