Ryn
Gluckman
,
BSN, RN, CEN
Emergency Department
Rutland Regional Medical Center
I nominated Ryn because not only did she set the stage for an excellent healthcare experience for my spouse, but because she is actively working to create a better environment and experience for all patients who visit RRMC.
The day we met Ryn my spouse was experiencing abdominal pain but as a trans person, was anxious about having to go to the ER to be treated. When Ryn asked what my spouse's preferred name and pronouns were, the relaxation was visible. My spouse had never been asked that in a medical setting, but that simple act changed the whole tenor of the visit. We were able to focus on the issue at hand without having to guard against transphobic language. Ryn communicated this to the whole team involved in my spouse's care.
Shortly after this visit, Ryn contacted me and asked if I would share our story with the training she was providing on LGBTQ+ care. The information was accessible and meaningful, and the turnout was impressive.
