Dayna did it with kindness and compassion.
My husband's grandparents both got Covid and were admitted to the hospital where Dayna Gambino works. Grandpa made the decision to transition to comfort measures only. Grandma had escalating oxygen requirements that morning and also chose not to be intubated and to be transitioned to hospice.
Dayna was integral in getting my husband's grandparents to be together in the same room. They were the great loves of each other's lives and our whole family felt strongly they should be together at the end of their life if possible. It was hard to bring grandma, who required so much oxygen, onto another floor and to coordinate the bed management and staffing for that to happen, but Dayna did it with kindness and compassion.
Our family is forever grateful for the care they received at the end of their life. When we saw the picture of their hospital beds close to each other and their hands holding it brought such comfort to us. We know being together brought such comfort to them as well. They were amazing people and Dayna made sure that they passed with the utmost comfort and dignity.
What a beautiful example of compassionate nursing care. Thank you Dayna.
