My 92-year-old mother was in the ICU for 5 days until her death. I wanted to share my story about how Syrlyn Gates (Lyn) not only took care of my mom but also our family.
Lyn told me that she had lost her mother at 48 and understood what I was feeling which made me feel very comfortable. Once my sisters had left mom's room that night, I was there with mom by myself. Lyn told me what to expect and when things would start to wind down for my mom. This helped me to understand the process and what would happen. Unfortunately, I'd been in this position before and this was the first time anyone has really helped me to understand what was going on.
Lyn told me she would pray with me, hold me, or just be there. It was of extreme comfort to know we were not alone during this hard time. In fact, Mom woke up, looked at Lyn, and said, "Am I in heaven?" and Lyn told her not yet, but she was on her way. She is an angel on earth and is doing the right things.
