During my critical care rotation in Nursing School, I had the pleasure of being a colleague of Clarice Poblete. While we were in the Emergency Department, she was always present to offer me help with turning patients or assisting with getting supplies. She was also always prepared and carried a small notepad to document patient's vitals when a computer was not available and also to save the unit's resources of paper. During our free time, while we were making rounds and checking on our patients' vitals, she noticed on the cardiac monitor, one of her patients had post-ventricular contractions.

Upon further assessment, the patient informed Clarice that they were experiencing periods of tachypnea on the monitor; Clarice promptly started documenting vitals on her notepad every 5 minutes to show her nurse. In the midst of this stressful moment, one of her patients wanted to leave AMA and Clarice attempted to deescalate and console the patient to stay in bed. To ensure the safety of the patient, she contacted her nurse immediately and was also able to update her precisely on the other patient's condition with her notepad. The patient eventually left against AMA and the nurse updated the doctor on the patient who had post-ventricular contractions. Because of this instance, Clarice inspired me to start carrying around a notepad as well to prepare for any potentially chaotic events, especially in the ER.
