I have heard of the DAISY Award before and have recently submitted a nomination for a nurse caring for my father at the VA. When I was made aware that nursing students could receive this award, I had to make you aware of this outstanding young nursing student and her gift.
My mother has severe Alzheimer's and has rapidly deteriorated over the past year. It has been so difficult for me to deal with as well as my father, who is disabled himself, confined to a wheelchair with one leg. He tries to care for her, but it's so difficult. Having caregivers come into their home was a constant failure over and over for our family, leading my father not to trust people to come into their home.

Until last summer, without hesitation, Taylor offered to help care for my mother. Taylor gave my mom out of this world care, love and compassion. She defeated the obstacles that my parents' home had, and she bathed my mother, dressed her, treated her skin with lotion and powder. She made her bed with fresh sheets each visit and cleaned the house. Taylor had long talks with her, even though most was gibberish. She told her stories and they laughed together, which melted my heart.

My dad truly enjoyed the days when Taylor came to help care for them. She painted her nails and shopped for new clothes for my mother so she could easily get dressed and be comfortable.  Taylor is the true example of an excellent caregiver and one day an outstanding nurse. She has given our family so much. We would love to see her recognized and would be honored to be part of it. Her smile has made my family's world and we want to give that back to her. Taylor truly loves my mom and makes sure she has the best. She calls to check on her weekly while back at school. Taylor stands out for the selfless dedication she gave my mother.
