The Jersey College Largo campus opened in the spring of 2016. Betty VanStedum wore many hats, and she still does. One of the most important was that of instructor. One former student noted, "Mrs. VanStedum has shown me how to be caring, compassionate, and empathetic. What she has taught me, I can now give to my patients."

Since that time, Jersey College –Largo has grown and thrived under her leadership. As Dean, Betty has helped the faculty grow through guidance and mentorship which has enabled Jersey College-Largo to produce caring and compassionate nurses who serve our community daily. You can still find Betty in front of the classroom or in a "Zoom" session tutoring students for the NCLEX exam. The DAISY honors not only great teaching skills and leadership but also a commitment to instilling strong patient care and compassion in nursing students. This is why Betty VanStedum was chosen by our Jersey College-Largo family to receive our first DAISY Award.
