Jim helped us participate in care, but mostly he spoke to my little one like he was a person, which many people tend to forget to do with babies.
"We had only spoken to Jim on the phone up until the early morning when I had gotten a call from my son's doctor that he had taken a turn for the worse. When we arrived at 12:40am, Jim was kind. He explained everything that was going on and how my sweet baby's blood pressure wasn't responding as we would like. We remained hopeful. Jim helped us participate in care, but mostly he spoke to my little one like he was a person, which many people tend to forget to do with babies.
Jim carried on conversations, and for me that was very important. Watching Jim that night buzz around the room doing everything possible to try to save my son is a memory I won't soon forget. Jim spoke with me and my husband and made us laugh and joke and hold onto hope as long as possible. As 7am approached and his conditioned worsened, Jim offered to pray over him with us. He also continued to prepare to try to save him. He started CPR and continued long after expiratory breaths, which I know he did for us parents (as my brain had stopped working and all I had was hope). After he passed, Jim's shift was over, but he still came by to say goodbye to him and that was incredibly touching too. Jim made the darkest day of mine and my husband's life have some spots of light, and for that I am forever grateful.
