There are two vent/trach patients that Lana Ball takes care of regularly. Neither one of these patients have families with them and they both have been emotionally adopted by the unit. The two patients are well taken care of by whichever nurse has them that day. But Lana goes above and beyond.
Lana truly treats these two patients like her own, even if she's not assigned to them, she checks on them. She gets the patient’s out of their beds and rooms when able. She sings and plays with the patients. Lana takes care of the patients just as if they were at her house. She cleans and organizes their rooms and makes sure they have interactions with other people. She spends the whole shift just taking care of them. I rarely see her sit down. I've only really seen her with these two patients but I know she's the same with all her patients because of comments I've heard. I've heard another nurse say, "If I'm ever in the hospital, I want Lana as my nurse." I've heard parents compliment her and even request her if they are recurring patients. She works well as a team member as well. If my child were ever here, I would definitely want Lana as their nurse.
